What is Solar Pasteurization?

 sunshine is an abundant source of energy that can not only cook food but can also heat water to temperatures that kill harmful microbes, making water safe to drink. This procedure is called solar water pasteurization.
It has been known since the late 1880s, when Louis Pasteur conducted groundbreaking research on bacteria, that heat can kill pathogenic (disease-causing) microbes. Most people know contaminated water can be made safe by boiling. What is not well known is that contaminated water can be pasteurized at temperatures well below boiling, as can milk, which is commonly pasteurized at 71°C (160°F) for 15 seconds.Other disease causing organisms called virus and parasites are also carried in water and milk.
         Pasteurisation means heating the milk or water hot enough and keeping it for long time to kill the germs,virus and parasites,which are all harmful for health.If the heat of the sun is used to do this it is called as solar pasteurisation.
             Solar pasteurisation disinfects the drinking water but does not removes the contaminants without additional filtration or treatment.
       PROS AND CONS

    It doesnt depend on fuel,electricity or expensive equipment.Solar pasteurisation is one of the the least expensive way to make sure milk and water ,you and your family drink is safe.

   As the treatment doesnt remove disease causing organisms,this is not advisable for children and old ones.
